Compostable bags need oxygen, moisture and microbial activity to break down, so they may not break down effectively in landfill.

These liners suit most 8L kitchen caddies and small benchtop bins. To check, measure around the top of your bin. If it's under about 75cm, these liners should fit with enough overhang to fold over the rim. Not sure? See our bin liner size guide.

  • Kitchen compost caddies and benchtop food scrap bins
  • Council FOGO kitchen caddies
  • Small kitchen, bathroom and office bins
  • Apartment kitchens and compact spaces
  • Pull a bag from the dispenser box and place it in a clean, dry bin
  • Fold the top over the rim of your caddy
  • Use for food scraps, food-soiled paper and light household waste
  • Don't overfill, and keep sharp items out to avoid tears
  • Empty every few days, especially in warm weather
  • Compost at home, or use in your council's FOGO bin where certified compostable liners are accepted
  • Store unused bags in a cool, dry place away from heat and direct sunlight, and use within 12 months

Are these bags home compostable?

Yes. They are certified to AS 5810 for home composting (ABAP 20047) and AS 4736 for commercial composting (ABAP 10113). Look for the seedling logo on the box.

How long do they take to break down?

It depends on your compost. Warm, moist, well-turned compost breaks them down fastest, while cooler home compost takes longer.

Can I put them in my council FOGO bin?

Many councils accept certified compostable caddy liners in FOGO bins, but rules vary. Check with your local council before using them in your green bin.

Can they go in recycling?

No. Compostable bags should not go in kerbside or soft plastic recycling, as they can contaminate recycled plastic.

What size bin do they fit?

Most 8L caddies, including the Ecopack Kitchen Compost Bin. Measure around the top of your bin. Under about 75cm should give a good fit.

What are they made from?

GMO-free corn starch, PLA and PBAT.

Why a dispenser box?

The kraft box keeps bags tidy and lets you pull out one at a time, on the bench or in a cupboard.

How long can I store them?

About 12 months from the manufacture date printed on the box. Keep them cool, dry and out of direct sunlight.
